Art projects

I've been messing around in Photoshop today. Wheee!

Texture layers are fun; they can grunge up a punk rock shot or antique a sweet baby:

Uno: Girls Rock!

Tres in her blessing dress

I took this photo of dandelions in our yard over the weekend. I had to lie right down in the grass to get that perspective with so much sky. I'm not going to think about what sort of things could have crawled on me.

Dandelions

I applied a Cutout filter in Photoshop for this result. I like the bold graphic quality. I might print it up big and hang it in the girls' play room. Or I might not. Who knows.

Dandelions

I took this shot yesterday. DH is bitter that our new neighbors don't mow the side of their yard next to ours, but frankly I like the nice long grass. It looks especially pretty in the evening with the sun slanting through behind the trees.

The neighbors' side yard

I'm not the only one with art projects lately, though Uno prefers hers to be more ... tactile? I don't know if that's the word I mean. Anyway. She put together this crown some time ago, made entirely by her with craft foam, construction paper, and masking tape. She rules (please excuse the bad pun).

Uno -- not very thrilled with having her picture taken -- is the Queen of Crafts

Thank you for humoring me with my little art show! :-)

Hey Mary, I was thinking that some of those tractor pics you took of Ashley (or the plain field ones) would look AWESOME with texture layers applied. Want me to email you some links or a tutorial? Or email me the pics and let me have a go at them?

Love the dandelion photo-both ways! Do you have a good camera? I need to get into photography.

I have a Nikon D70; it's pricier than a point-and-shoot but not the most expensive (or current) DSLR out there. I got mine on eBay about a year and a half ago for ~$400. It's a great camera; the automatic settings do a brilliant job and the manual settings aren't too complicated to figure out if you have a basic background in photography (or can read a camera manual, lol).

I'm actually in the market for a good P&S -- something compact so I can always have a camera on me -- so I'd be glad to hear any recommendations from the peanut gallery! :-)
