Playroom decor

DH has the decorating bug again; the bare white walls in the basement are driving him crazy and he's threatening to do something about the situation himself.

Ack. I thought boys were supposed to be indifferent to interior design!

The girls and I did our big out-of-town shopping trip yesterday, so I brought home some paint chips to head DH off at the pass. I'm finally beginning to formulate a plan for the playroom:

Dutch Boy Summer Retreat; Hydrangea Bloom; Sweet Champagne; Exotic Isle

The green and the neutral color (it's more yellow in real life than it looks on my screen -- for that matter, so is the green) would go on the walls, though I haven't decided yet whether I want to split them up with a chair rail or paint the whole wall with the neutral and use the green to paint a low border with freehand blades of grass. The dark blue would go on the ceiling, as a sky. I would like to remove the bifold closet door and use the closet as a cozy nook painted with the lighter blue, where I'd put in some kind of storage bench so they would have a place to sit and read while attractively hiding their hoards of toys.

That's all I've got so far. All you peanuts in the peanut gallery are now free to comment and help me refine this idea and/or brainstorm something else! Thanks in advance. :-)

Dearest Manwich,

If your silly husband really wants his house decorated RIGHT NOW then tell him to hand the pocketbook over and we'll get it done! Let's do it! Let's go on a MAJOR shopping spree. Spare no expenses the Dr. Dr. wants a decorated house!

Seriously, I will spend your money for you and get you a nicely decorated house!

I don't know if I can afford (or want to afford -- spending still makes me nervous) a huge spree, but what are your ideas? What do you think of mine? Too many colors in one room? It is a kid's room, after all. :-P

I want it lovely and whimsical and practical all at the same time.

I am so jealous. The closest I come to decorating is watching HGTV.

I love colorful play rooms and wish I had one in my house. Bead board is my dream--we were too frugal to put it in the girls rooms and just did chair rail instead and 2 different colors above and below to break it up. It still looks cute. I'm a white ceiling kind of girl but that's just me:)
